Here are some hints and tips on what to wear on a family photoshoot:
Make sure you’re all comfortable in what you’re wearing. Clothes that are comfortable will help you relax into the photoshoot. And I want your photos to represent who you really are.
Don’t try and match your clothes too much, but do co‑ordinate. Choose a colour scheme and mix and match from this. Solid blocks of colour work well.
Try and avoid too many patterns. One patterned item of clothing is great. For the rest, keep it simple and timeless.
Avoid logos and cartoon characters as they will date the photo quickly and detract the eye from your happy smiling faces.
Location – Think about where the photos will be taken. If they’re outside against a backdrop of greenery, avoid greens, browns and oranges as you won’t be visible. And this is not the point of a photoshoot!
Monochrome – Avoid big blocks of either black or white as they don’t always come out that well in photos.
Footwear – Consider where the photos are being taken and make sure your footwear matches your clothes. Scruffy trainers can spoil an otherwise beautiful shot!
Use accessories – add scarves, hats, jackets, jewellery or even ties into the mix. It all adds colour, interest and texture (great for black and white photos!).
Prepare – Try your clothes on in advance of the shoot, and make sure all your clothes are clean before the day of the shoot!
Room decor – If the photos are going to be displayed in a particular room, you may want your clothes to complement your colour scheme.
